> During the Jin dynasty, the wife of Yan Meng of Kuaiji went out to gather firewood and was killed by a tiger, subsequently dying. When Meng walked into the brush, he suddenly saw her, who said: 'If you travel today, you will surely meet with misfortune; I shall save you.' Thereupon they proceeded together. Suddenly they encountered a tiger leaping towards Meng; the wife raised her hand and gestured, acting to shield and protect him. In a moment, two non-Han men carrying halberds passed by; the wife pointed at them, and the tiger immediately attacked the foreigners, so the husband was able to escape. (The one verified account above is taken from the \*Yiyuan lu\*.)
