> "What is meant by the suffering of separation from the beloved? It refers to relatives both within and outside the household—brothers, wives, and children—who cherish and yearn for one another. In a single morning their home is ruined, and they are raided and plundered by others. Each is torn apart: the father is to the east, the son to the west; the mother to the south, the wife to the north; they are not in a single place. Becoming the slaves of others, each weeps and laments. Their hearts and flesh feel severed, plunged into darkness, with no prospect of ever seeing one another again. Is this suffering or not?"
> He answered, saying: "Truly, it is great suffering."
