> There are further five things through which one is born among humans with fragrant and pure breath, body and mind constantly at peace, praised by others and never slandered. What are the five? First, utmost sincerity, not deceiving others. Second, reciting the sūtras without discriminating between self and other. Third, guarding the precepts, not slandering the holy path. Fourth, teaching others to abandon evil and pursue good. Fifth, not seeking out the shortcomings of others. These are the five things through which one is born among humans with fragrant and pure breath, body and mind constantly at peace, praised by others and never slandered. There are further five things through which, if among humans, one is constantly slandered and hated by others, with an ugly body, unsettled mind, constantly harbouring fear. What are the five? First, constantly lacking utmost sincerity, cheating and deceiving others. Second, slandering whoever expounds the Dharma in the great assembly. Third, seeing fellow students and testing them contemptuously. Fourth, fabricating faults where no such matters exist. Fifth, provoking strife with a double tongue between parties. These are the five things through which, if among humans, one is constantly slandered, hated by others, with an ugly body, unsettled body and mind, constantly harbouring fear.
