又優婆塞經云。有智之人。若遇惡罵當作是念。是罵詈字不一時生。初字生時後字未生。後字生已初字復滅。若不一時云何是罵。直是風聲我云何瞋。故智度論云。菩薩觀眾生。雖復百千劫罵詈不生瞋心。若百千劫稱讚亦不歡喜。了知音聲生滅如夢如響。

> Furthermore, the Upāsaka-śīla-sūtra says: 'A person of wisdom, if encountering wicked insults, should think: "These abusive words do not arise at the same time. When the first syllable arises, the later syllables have not yet arisen; once the later syllables have arisen, the first syllable has ceased. If not occurring at the same time, how is it an insult? It is merely the sound of wind; why should I be angry?"' Therefore, the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra says: 'When a bodhisattva contemplates sentient beings, even if cursed for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, no angry mind arises; if praised for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, they also do not rejoice, thoroughly knowing that voices arise and cease like dreams and echoes.'
