> During the Liang dynasty, when Wang Ke was \[governor of\] Yongjia Commandery, someone presented him with a sheep as a gift. He gathered guests intending to hold a banquet. The sheep's rope became untied, and it ran up to one of the guests, first kneeling twice in obeisance, and then burrowing into his robes. This guest never spoke up about it, nor did he make any plea to save it. In a short while, the sheep was slaughtered and roasted. The first portion served came to this guest; as soon as one piece of meat entered his mouth, it slipped beneath his skin and travelled throughout his entire body, causing him to howl in excruciating pain. Only then did he recount what had happened, whereupon he bleated like a sheep and died.
