> From this it is proven and known that one who speaks falsehood suffers pain throughout the three periods of time. Furthermore, the Scripture on the Secret Essentials of Dhyāna says: If there are members of the fourfold assembly who, within the Buddha's Dharma, out of lust for offerings, are insatiably greedy and covetous, and for the sake of a good reputation make false pretences and commit evil—who in truth do not practise seated meditation, yet in body and speech act with heedlessness and pursue heedless deeds, and because of greed for gain claim of themselves that they sit in meditation: such a bhikṣu commits a sthūlātyaya offence. If the time passes without him confessing and he does not repent of his own accord, after a brief moment he then commits the thirteen saṅghāvaśeṣa offences. If one day passes, or up to two days, one should know that this bhikṣu is a thief among gods and humans, a rākṣasa and a butcher, who will certainly fall into the evil destinies, having committed a grave and weighty transgression. If a bhikṣu or bhikṣuṇī does not in truth see white bones, yet claims of themselves to see white bones, and so on up to ānāpāna, this bhikṣu or bhikṣuṇī deceives and deludes the devas, nāgas, ghosts, spirits, and the like. This breed of evil people are of the seed of Pāpīyān. For the sake of speaking falsehood, they say of themselves: 'I have attained the contemplation of impurity,' and so forth up to the dharma of the peak. After this false speaker's life comes to an end, swifter than lightning and rain, they will certainly fall into the Avīci hell, with a lifespan of one kalpa. Emerging from hell, they fall among the hungry ghosts, devouring hot iron balls for eight thousand years. Emerging from among the hungry ghosts, they fall among animals: while living, they constantly bear heavy burdens; upon death, they are furthermore flayed of their skins. Passing through five hundred lifetimes, they are reborn again among humans: deaf, blind, mute, and crippled with a hundred illnesses, these serving as their clothing. Enduring suffering such as this cannot be described in full. Furthermore, a verse in the Scripture on the Mindfulness of the True Dharma says:
