> Indeed, when sincere devotion resonates within, the Ultimate Awakening is as if present before us; when physical effort is exhausted without, the dharmakāya is merely a foot away. Therefore, our fundamental teacher, the Benevolent and Capable One (Śākyamuni), accorded with conditions and responded to the capacities of beings. Pitying the burning of the blazing house, lamenting the perpetual fog of the stream of desires, he entrusted himself to the palace of Śuddhodana and descended into the womb of Māyā. Unfolding his golden complexion, he dispelled the darkness of fundamental ignorance. Abiding amidst these three delusions, he demonstrated that the painted casket is unreal; exiting those four gates, he showed with alarm how easily the floating clouds perish.
