> Furthermore, the Mahāsaṃnipāta-sūtra states: For the meaning of a single character or a single phrase, a bodhisattva can offer the precious gems of the worlds of the ten directions to the Dharma King; for the cause of a single verse, he will cast away his life. Though one were to practice dāna for kalpas as numerous as the sands of immeasurable Gaṅgā rivers, it would not equal the joy that arises in the mind upon hearing of bodhi once. If one delights in hearing and delights in preaching the saddharma, one will always be kept in mind by all the buddhas and all the devas. By the power of mindfulness, one will be able to penetrate all the scriptures, books, and treatises of the world.
