Although they instruct people in methods of collective deśanā for offenses, the texts are scattered and cannot be recorded in full. Taking the deśanā texts of the previous two sūtras as somewhat abridged, I have specifically cited them here. Secretly reflecting, sentient beings from beginningless time down to the present have committed exceedingly many errors, their names and numbers like dust and sand. If one relies solely on the preceding deśanā, one still fears the washing and cleansing cannot be thoroughly complete. Here below, we further rely on the two Dharma masters Tanqian and Lingyu of the Sui dynasty to repent collectively of the ten unwholesome deeds, hoping it will be thorough. Although composed by ordinary persons, the texts and meanings were all gathered and compiled from the noble intentions of the Bodhisattvabhūmi-śāstra and other treatises; practicing in accordance with them is completely in accord with the Buddha's intention.
