> During the Tang, Wei Zhishi of the Capital District, an administrative officer of the Right Golden Guard, was boiling a leg of mutton during the Yonghui era (650–655 CE). After half a day, it was still raw. Zhishi was angry with his servants, saying, "You used ten times the firewood of normal times, yet I do not know why it is like this!" He ordered it to be boiled again, but it remained as before. He then ordered it to be cut open, and inside they found a bronze statue, one inch in length and diameter, brilliantly radiant, complete with the primary and secondary marks. His family never dared to consume wine or meat for the rest of their lives. Lang Yuling of Zhongshan personally heard it recounted.
