> "Again, in the past there was a king named Candradīpa (Moon Brightness), who was upright and handsome. Coming forth from his palace, on the road he saw a blind man, impoverished, starving, and begging along the road, who came toward where the king was. At that time, King Candradīpa, seeing this blind man, felt pity for him and wept tears, asking the blind man, 'What kind of medicine can cure your illness?' The blind man replied, 'Only if I obtain the king's eyes will my illness be cured and my eyes able to see.' At this time, King Candradīpa personally took out both of his eyes and gave them to the blind man, his mind serene without a single thought of regret. King Candradīpa at that time was my very person. Mount Sumeru can still be weighed to know its catty and ounces, but the eyes I gave cannot be reckoned or calculated."
