> Furthermore, the Sarvāstivāda-śāstra states: There is no white-robed layperson who attains the Buddha path; one must possess the thirty-two marks, go forth from the household, don the Dharma robes, and be complete in dignified manners. The Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya-śāstra states: Contentment arises in the present; having few desires arises in regard to the future life. Not taking a single coin in the present is difficult; not taking the position of a wheel-turning king in the future is easy. Furthermore, the Nirvāṇa Sūtra states: Not giving rise to greed for wealth not yet obtained is called having few desires; not giving rise to greed for wealth already obtained is called contentment. Contentment concerns the present; having few desires concerns the future.
