> At that time the Bhagavat said to Ānanda: "If there are sentient beings who, having visualized the Buddha sitting, should then visualize the images walking. One who visualizes the images walking sees the worlds of the ten directions filled with walking images. In the sky and on the ground, he sees each image rising from its seat. When each image rises, there are fifty billion jewelled flowers; within each flower there are countless rays of light; within each ray of light countless transformation buddhas appear in accordance with the mind's thoughts. Each transformation buddha emits golden light that illuminates the practitioner's body. At this time, when the practitioner enters samādhi, he sees for himself the thirty-six filthy and impure substances of his own body. When these impurities appear, he must swiftly eliminate them. This visualization of impurity arises from craving and is false and unreal. Using this visualization, he causes all the impurities to turn into white jade, seeing his own body like a white jade vase, empty both inside and out. When performing this visualization, it is advisable to take ghee medicine so that the body does not become depleted. He should supplicate the walking images to rub his head with their hands and emit great light to illuminate his body. At that time, the practitioner sees his own body as of a golden colour. When this visualization is accomplished, he emerges from samādhi, rejoices, pays homage to all the buddhas, cultivates all meritorious deeds, and dedicates them to bodhi. At that time, all the buddhas, with different mouths but the same voice, each preach the Dharma to the practitioner. Although he has not yet attained the Path, he sees the buddhas, hears the Dharma, and retains it in dhāraṇī without losing it. This is called an ordinary person's buddhānusmṛti-samādhi. Having attained this samādhi, he constantly sees the buddhas in a single instant, and the Mahāyāna that they teach becomes completely mastered in a single day and night. Each and every buddha speaks words of definitive assurance: 'Because you have practiced buddhānusmṛti, after passing the Constellation Kalpa you will attain buddhahood; your physical marks and radiance will be no different from mine.' When these words are spoken, eighty billion buddhas emit light at once, and within the light, countless transformation buddhas all speak these words. The Buddha told Ānanda: "If this buddhānusmṛti-samādhi is to be accomplished, there are five causes and conditions. What are the five? First, to keep the precepts without violation. Second, not to give rise to wrong views. Third, not to produce arrogance. Fourth, not to have anger or jealousy. Fifth, to be vigorously energetic as if putting out a fire on one's head. Practicing these five things, one maintains right mindfulness of the buddhas so that the mind does not regress. One should make offerings to the buddhas of the ten directions. How does one make offerings? When this person emerges from samādhi, enters a stūpa, sees the images, and recites the sūtras, if he pays homage to one buddha, he should reflect: 'The mental wisdom of the fully enlightened buddhas is unobstructed. My bowing to one buddha now is bowing to all buddhas; if I contemplate one buddha, I see all buddhas.' Before each buddha there is a practitioner bowing down to touch the feet in reverence, and all are one's own body. When offering a single flower to the Buddha, one should reflect: 'The dharmakāya of all the buddhas has immeasurable merit, neither abiding nor perishing, serenely ever-tranquil. I now offer this flower to the buddhas; may the Buddha accept it.' Having reflected thus, he should further form the conception: 'The flower I hold grew from grasses and trees; holding this in offering is merely an approximation.' He should then reflect, imagining the pores of his body, causing a single pore to emit countless clouds of flowers and countless streams and clouds of incense, which pervade the worlds of the ten directions to perform buddha-work, turning back into a golden dais and abiding before the practitioner. If an ordinary person wishes to make offerings, holding an incense burner in hand and holding flowers in offering, he should make this vow: 'May this flower and incense fill the worlds of the ten directions to make offerings to all buddhas, transformation buddhas, bodhisattvas, and the countless assembly of śrāvakas. May they accept these clouds of incense and flowers as radiant platforms, extending across boundless realms, performing buddha-work infinitely and boundlessly.' From each pore flow forth banners, streamers, immeasurable music, renowned garments and fine clothing, a hundred kinds of food and drink, and various miscellaneous offerings, all in accordance with the previous method."
