When a person of Godānīya is born in Pūrvavideha, what signs are there? People of these two continents being reborn reciprocally in one another all do so with a single sign: at the time of approaching death, they see a dark cave; in this cave there is a red flash of lightning hanging down like a banner, either red or white. The person, seeing it, grasps it with the hand; the present existence is extinguished, and taking the banner with the hand, successively following the banner, one enters this cave, receives the intermediate body, and approaches the existence of birth. Seeing the phenomena of taking birth is also as described before; or seeing two oxen or two horses copulating in passionate attachment, one gives rise to a mind of desire. Having given rise to a mind of desire, one immediately receives the existence of birth.
