> As the \*Arthavargīya Sūtra\* spoken by the Buddha says: The Buddha told the brāhmaṇa: 'There are five things in the world that cannot be avoided, and from which none can escape. What are the five? 1. The condition of being subject to depletion; 2. The condition of being subject to loss and abandonment; 3. The condition of being subject to illness and emaciation; 4. The condition of being subject to aging and decay; 5. The condition of being subject to death. Regarding these five conditions, to wish that depletion should not occur is impossible.'
