> Furthermore, the Fo bannihuan jing says: The Buddha told Āmrapālī, 'Those fond of sexual misconduct have five forms of self-hindrance: first, bad reputation; second, being abhorred by the royal law; third, harboring suspicion and much doubt; fourth, falling into hell upon death; fifth, when the retribution for hell-offenses is completed, receiving the form of an animal. These are all caused by sin. Those who can extinguish their desires and refrain from sexual misconduct have five ways of increasing merit: first, being praised by many people; second, not fearing officials; third, the body attaining peace; fourth, being born in heaven upon death; fifth, attaining the path of nirvāṇa through purity of mind.'
