> Furthermore, the Jiu za piyu jing says: In ancient times, a king guarded his women very strictly. The primary queen said to the crown prince, 'I gave birth to you as your mother, but have never seen the country; I wish to go out just once. You may address the king about this.' After this was said three times, the prince spoke to the king, and the king granted permission. The prince drove the chariot himself. The ministers along the road welcomed her and bowed. The queen put her hand out and parted the curtain so that people could see her. When the prince saw that a woman could act like this, he feigned a stomachache and returned. The queen said, 'How lacking in fortune and virtue I am!' The prince thought to himself, 'If even my mother is like this, how much more so others?' That night, he abandoned the realm and left, entering the mountains to wander and contemplate. At that time, by the roadside there was a tree, below which was a spring of water. The prince climbed up the tree. He happened to see a wandering brahmacārin enter a pool alone to bathe. After coming out, he ate his food, and by means of magic he spat out a jar. In the jar was a woman, with whom he stayed in seclusion. When the brahmacārin was about to sleep, the woman again spat out a jar; in the jar was a man, with whom she also slept. After sleeping, she swallowed the jar. In a short while, the brahmacārin arose, put the woman back inside the jar, swallowed it, took his staff, and left. The prince returned to his state and reported to the king, inviting the brahmacārin and the ministers, and prepared a meal for three people, placing it to one side. When the brahmacārin arrived, he said, 'I am alone.' The prince said, 'Brahmacārin, you should bring out your wife to eat together.' The brahmacārin, having no choice, brought out his wife. The prince said to the woman, 'You should bring out your husband to eat together.' When spoken to three times like this, she had no choice but to bring out the man to eat together. When they finished eating, they departed. The king asked the prince, 'How did you know this?' He replied, 'When my mother went to view the country, I was driving the chariot; my mother opened the curtain and put her hand out so that people would see her. I reflected that women can have much desire, so I feigned a stomachache, returned, and entered the mountains, where I saw the brahmacārin who concealed a woman in his belly. Women's deceit like this can never be ended. I wish that the Great King would release those in the palace to go and come as they please.' The king issued an edict to the inner palace that whoever wished to leave was free to follow her will. The master says: In the world, that which cannot be trusted is woman.
