Hearing the sound of the Buddha preaching the Dharma by the pond, it came out of the pond and went beneath the roots of the grass to listen to the Buddha preaching the Dharma. At that time, there was a man holding a staff herding cows. Seeing the Buddha seated and preaching the Dharma to the assembly, he went toward the Buddha's dwelling wishing to hear the Dharma. He stuck his staff into the ground, accidentally piercing the frog's head. It died immediately and was born in Trāyastriṃśa Heaven. Due to the retribution of its merit, its palace measured twelve yojanas in length and breadth, and it enjoyed amusements and pleasures with heavenly maidens. It then rode its palace to the Buddha's dwelling and bowed its head in homage at his feet. The Buddha, knowing full well, asked: "Who are you that you suddenly pay homage at my feet, your supernormal powers and radiance, your primary and secondary marks incomparable, illuminating this place through and through?"
