> Furthermore, the Nirvāṇa Sūtra says: "Living at home is cramped and confined, just like a prison; all afflictions arise because of it. Leaving the household is wide and spacious, just like empty space; all wholesome dharmas increase because of it. Those at home worry about wives and children inwardly, and are driven by royal service outwardly. If they are wealthy, noble, and exalted, they become heedless and indulge their passions; if they are poor, suffering, base, and lowly, they lose their resolve in hunger and cold. Troubled day and night by public and private matters, entangled in numerous duties, when would they have leisure to cultivate the Path?"
