> Furthermore, the Jialuoyue liu xiang bai jing (Siṅgālovāda-sūtra) says: 'There are four classes of good spiritual friends: first, appearing like an enemy externally, but possessing deep goodwill internally; second, remonstrating directly before a person, but speaking of the person's goodness elsewhere; third, when \[the friend\] is emaciated by illness or summoned by officials for litigation, resolving their worries for them; fourth, seeing a person poor and lowly, one's heart does not cast them aside, and one thinks to make them wealthy. There are another four classes of good spiritual friends: first, when one is arrested by officials, taking them home to hide them and afterward resolving it; second, when one is emaciated and weakened by illness, taking them home to nurse and look after them; third, when a spiritual friend dies, officially preparing the burial and looking after them; fourth, when a spiritual friend has died, continuing to look after their family.'
