> Yet another ghost said, 'I constantly have hot iron needles entering and exiting my body; I suffer helpless misery. For what cause is this so?' Maudgalyāyana answered, saying, 'In your past life you were a horse-trainer, or an elephant-trainer. When the elephants and horses were hard to control, you pierced their feet with iron needles. Moreover, when oxen were slow, you also pierced them with needles. Therefore you suffer this pain.'
