- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.291](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2127.1.291)

> The Sanskrit sound is paṭa, which means plain strip in Chinese; that is, a single piece of cotton cloth measured to equal the three robes, but without the field marks (the width of cotton cloth in the western countries is quite broad). From the arrival of the Buddha's Dharma until the Han dynasty, spanning one hundred and eighty-seven years, all who renounced household life did not know the method of cutting into strips, and wore only this robe.
