> The Vinaya says: "South of Rājagṛha, there was a musician named Labha, who took the eight aspects \[of the Buddha's life\] and compiled them into songs, causing faithful people who heard them to give rise to joyful minds." Nowadays, the monks of the capital chant "The Eight Aspects of Liangzhou", and the Court of Imperial Sacrifices performs "Three Refuges", "Willow Embracing the Mist", and the like, which are called "Tang Hymns." Moreover, the Chan practitioners of the south compose "The Fisherman Moves the Oar" as lyrics for singing the Way; all of these are remnants of this practice.
