> Pinqi (the first character is pi-yin fan, the second is jiu-yu fan; the Wenzi jilüe says: "Pin means knitting the brows"; Gu Yewang says: "Pinqi is an appearance of grief, anxiety, and unhappiness"; the Kaosheng says: "Qi means shamefaced and bashful"; the Shuowen says: "Fording water, one knits the brows \[pinqi\]"; the ancient script wrote 顰, and also 𧭹; it is now abbreviated; the second character qi is also sometimes written as 蹙; the ancient script wrote 𦞠; the scripture writes 蹙, which is not the original character, and glosses it as exhausted, pressed, guilty, or urgent, which is not the meaning in the scripture).
