卍字之文（梵云室哩二合末蹉倉何反唐云吉祥相也有云萬字者謬說也花嚴經第八卷中具說此相等亦非是字也乃是如來身上數處有此吉祥之文大福德之相）。

> The svastika mark (卍字之文: in Sanskrit it is called śrīvatsa (室哩 \[two characters combined\], 末蹉, \[蹉 is pronounced\] cāng-hé fan). In the Tang language, it means "mark of auspiciousness." To call it the character "wàn" (ten thousand) is an erroneous theory. The eighth fascicle of the Avataṃsaka-sūtra explains this sign in full detail; it is not a Chinese character at all, but rather this auspicious pattern found in several places on the body of the Tathāgata, a sign of great merit and virtue).
