- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [12.191](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2128.12.191)

魔罥（上音摩梵語略也正梵音云麼莫可反羅唐言力也此鬼神有大神力能障修行十善因以名焉下決兖反羂索也罥亦縛也從冈肙聲也肙音一縣）。

> 魔罥 (Māra's snare): The upper \[character\] is pronounced \*mó\* (音摩), an abbreviation of the Sanskrit. The correct Sanskrit sound is \*māra\* (麼羅, 麼 is 莫可反 \[mɑ̌\]), which in the Tang language means "power". These spirits possess great supernatural power and can obstruct the cultivation of the ten wholesome deeds, hence their name. The lower \[character\] is \*juàn\* (決兖反 \[kwiɛň\]), a snare or lasso; 罥 also means to bind. It takes the net radical 冈 with 肙 (\*yuān\*, 一縣反 \[ʔwenᴴ\]) as its phonetic.
