(Amputating the feet: \[yue has\] the fanqie 元厥; the name of an ancient punishment. The classics and histories describe it differently: some call it fei 腓 punishment \[wan with the fanqie 未反\], or bin 𩪯 \[with the fanqie 毘胤\]; the punishments, however, are entirely the same. When people crossed passes and bridges or climbed city walls to commit robbery, their punishment was amputation of the feet. The Kaosheng says: 'Severing the feet.' It is also written as 𰸌. The Shuowen jiezi states that it is formed with the knife radical 刀 and yue 月 as phonetic).
