> Like a rhinoceros (如犀: pronounced 西 \[xī\]; the name of a beast. The Erya says: 'The rhinoceros resembles a pig.' Guo Pu's commentary says: 'Its shape resembles a water buffalo with a pig's head, large belly, and short legs, each foot having three hooves; it is black with three horns—one on top of the head, and one on the snout. The one on the snout is called the feeding horn, and it loves to eat thorns; there are also those with a single horn.' The sūtra uses the metaphor of the single-horned \[rhinoceros\]. The Shuowen jiezi states that it is composed of the ox radical (牛) and an abbreviation of tail (尾)).
