> Boots and caps (鞾㡌: \[the character for boots (鞾)\] is 暉 \[hui\] + 迦 \[jia\] \[xuē\]. The Yunquan says: 'Footwear with a shaft.' Character glossaries say: 'Footwear of foreign peoples (Hu).' The character for footwear (屩) is pronounced 羗 \[qiang\] + 嬌 \[jiao\] \[juē\]. The Kaosheng states that the orthodox form is 㞜. Sūtras write it as 𩋖, 鞾, or 靴, all of which are vulgar characters. The lower character \[cap (㡌)\] is 毛 \[mao\] + 報 \[bao\] \[mào\]; it is also written as 帽. The Kaosheng says: 'Headwear.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Headwear for young children and barbarian tribes.' Originally written as 冒, in clerical script it is composed with the cloth radical (巾) and 冒 as phonetic).
