跋墀（上蒲未反下音遲舊云婆雉皆梵語訛略不切也此即阿修羅王名也正梵音云嚩抳嚩音無割反抳音尼里反此無正翻故存梵語舊譯云縛常居修羅軍眾之前因戰敗惡為帝釋所縛因誓得脫故以為名）。

> Vepacitti (跋墀: the upper character is 蒲 \[pu\] + 未 \[wei\] \[bèi\]; the lower character is pronounced 遲 \[chí\]. Formerly written as Pozhi \[婆雉\], both being corrupt and abbreviated Sanskrit terms, not phonetically accurate. This is the name of an asura king. The correct Sanskrit sound is Vepacitti (嚩抳; 嚩 is pronounced 無 \[wu\] + 割 \[ge\] \[wá\], 抳 is pronounced 尼 \[ni\] + 里 \[li\] \[nǐ\]). As there is no standard Chinese translation for this, the Sanskrit is preserved. Older translations render it as 'Bound' (縛); he always stood before the asura hosts, and because of suffering defeat in battle, he was bound by Śakra Devānām Indra, and after swearing an oath gained release; hence he was given this name).
