- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [14.92](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2128.14.92)

> 狐𧲪 (The upper character is pronounced hu2: a type of jackal. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A bewitching beast, ridden by ghosts.' The lower character is pronounced he2 \[he-ge fan\]. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Resembles a fox but smaller; fond of sleeping.' In the sūtra it is written as 狢 with 'big' (大). The Shuowen jiezi, Gujin zhengzi, and Dianlun all write it as 貈 with 'boat' (舟), which is an error. The standard form has 亢; 亢 is pronounced he2 \[ge-dang fan\]. The Kaosheng also writes it as \[豸\*兄\], which provides evidence; some also write 貉, which is also acceptable).
