> Passes and patrols (關邏: the first character has the fanqie g- + \[w\]an \[=guān\]; Zheng's commentary to the Rites of Zhou says: 'A guān (關) is a gateway on a border'; the Shuowen says: 'Using wood horizontally to bar a door'; the Guangya says: 'A guān is a pass or barrier'; it is formed with 'door' \[門\] and wān \[𢇇\] as phonetic; wān \[𢇇\] has the same pronunciation as above; the sūtra writes it with biàn \[弁\] as 閞, which is incorrect. The second character has the fanqie l- + \[t\]uo \[=luó\]; character books say: 'Luó (邏) means to intercept'; the Yunlüe says: 'Roving soldiers patrolling against bandits in strategic defiles and garrison posts').
