> Roosting and lodging (栖泊: the first character has the fanqie x\[iān\] + \[x\]ī; the Erya says: "Qi (栖) means to rest." The Guangya says: "Resting is called lin." The standard form has the wife radical and the tree radical, forming 棲; the canonical text uses the form with the west radical as 栖, which is a popular character. The Shuowen says: "A bird on its nest, pictographic"; it is an ancient form of west (西). Because the sun is in the west when birds roost, it was adopted as the character for west. The second character has the fanqie b\[àng\] + \[m\]ò; the Chuci says: "Ascending, the sun bird surges, / Suddenly soaring and resting." Wang Yi's commentary says: "Bo (泊) is like halting. When flowing water comes to a halt, it is called bo").
