> Spears and lances (鉾矟: the upper character is with the fanqie of 莫 and 侯. The Kaosheng gives the correct form as 矛; a 矛 belongs to the dagger-axe class, a pictographic character. The Shuowen states: "A spear is one zhang and two chi long, mounted on a war chariot." It is also written as 𢦵 and 𨥨. In the scriptures it is written as 鉾, which is vulgar. The lower character is with the fanqie of 雙 and 捉. The Guangya says: "A 矟 is also a spear." The Gujin zhengzi states: "A 矟 is one zhang and eight chi long. With the radical 矛 and 肖 as phonetic." In the scripture text it is written with the tree radical as 𣓞, which is an incorrect vulgar character).
