(The first character has the fanqie \*chang\* + \*zhou\* \[chòu\]. The \*Shuowen\* states: "When game runs, the one that knows its scent by smell is the dog. Formed with \*quan\* (dog) and formed with \*zi\* (nose); \*zi\* is the ancient character for nose, pictographic." Today, commonly writing it with \*si\* (death) as 臰 is incorrect. The second character has the fanqie \*lan\* + \*han\* \[làn\]. The \*Fangyan\* states: "Cooked thoroughly by fire is called \*làn\*." The \*Shuowen\* states: "\*Làn\* means thoroughly cooked. Formed with \*huo\* (fire) and has \*lan\* phonetic." Sūtra editions write it with \*rou\* (flesh) as \[月\*蘭\], which is a clerical error).
