> 曲撩 ("hooked pikes"; \[the latter\] fanqie: 了 + 蕭. The Guangya says: "Liao (撩) means to take, or to manage." According to the meaning in the sūtra, qu liao must refer to a weapon of war, not the meaning of taking or managing. When consulting dictionaries, all give the same \[definitions\], which diverge from the sūtra. I consider that this must be a hooked halberd, resembling a spear with a curved blade like a hook—the hook-spear of today).
