> Kiṃnara (緊那羅: 'kiṃ' translates here as 'doubt'; 'nara' translates here as 'man'. This means that this spirit's appearance resembles a human, but it has a single horn on its crown, so that those who see it now doubt, saying: 'Is it human, or not?' Another explanation says: 'nara' translates here as 'man'; 'kiṃ' means 'hesitant' or 'doubtful'; because its form resembles a human while its mouth resembles that of an ox, it causes onlookers to feel doubt, hence the name. The older translation as 'singing and music spirit' \[歌樂神\] translates it according to its skill).
