- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [21.94](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2128.21.94)

> Kumbhāṇḍa (鳩盤荼: translates here as 'scrotum', and also as 'egg-shaped'. The scrotums of this class resemble winter melons; when walking, they carry them on their shoulders, and when sitting, they sit upon them. Because of this bizarre and grotesque appearance differing from all other kinds, they are named after it. The older translation as 'winter melon spirit' \[冬苽神\] arose because the matter was vulgar and omitted without being made explicit, causing people to misunderstand).
