群萌（萌莫耕反漢書集注曰萌謂草木初生也毛詩傳曰羣眾也言童蒙凡夫猶彼眾小草也又或字冝作氓毛詩傳曰氓民也氓與萌同也）。

> Multitude of sprouted beings (群萌: \*萌\* is pronounced \*méng\* \[莫耕反\]. The \*Collected Commentaries on the Book of Han\* says: "\*Meng\* refers to the first sprouting of grasses and trees." Mao's commentary on the \*Classic of Poetry\* says: "\*Qun\* \[群\] means a multitude." It means that unenlightened ordinary mortals are like those many small plants. Alternatively, the character should properly be \*míng\* \[氓\]; Mao's commentary on the \*Classic of Poetry\* says: "\*Ming\* means the common people"; \*míng\* \[氓\] and \*méng\* \[萌\] are interchangeable).
