> 俾倪 ("battlements / peering": the upper character is the fanqie pǔ + mǐ; the lower character is the fanqie wǔ + lǐ. In the Yupian it is also written 隦堄. Both the Picang and the Guangya state: "A small parapet on a city wall." Furthermore, the Shiming says: "To spy out unusual matters through openings in a wall." Examining this character now, it has two meanings: first, spying out; second, a parapet wall. A parapet wall should not have the human radical, while spying out should hardly have the earth radical. If it refers to a parapet wall, it should be 埤堄; if one takes the sense of spying out, it should be written 俾倪. With two forms and two senses, none of the traditions is lost).
