> Gold (jin): (The Shuowen says: "Of the five colors of metals, yellow is the chief. Buried for long it does not spoil; smelted a hundred times it does not lighten; it conforms to transformation without resistance. It belongs to the phase of the West. It is born of earth, hence it follows 'earth' \[土\]; the dots on left and right depict the form of gold in the earth. Jin \[今\] is the phonetic." It should be written as 金).
