> Reed warbler (鷦鷯鳥): The upper character is pronounced \*jiāo\* (鷦), and the lower character is pronounced \*liáo\* (鷯). The \*Erya\* says: 'The \*jiāoliáo\* splits reeds.' Guo Pu's commentary says: 'It likes to split the skin of reeds to eat the insects inside. South of the Yangtze it is called the reed tiger; it resembles a sparrow with blue spots and a long tail.' Note: It constructs its nest from plant down just like a cotton bag; the \*Fangyan\* calls it the "female artisan".'
