> Invasion and harassment (侵擾): The upper character has the fanqie \*qǐn\* + \*yín\* (侵). The \*Shuowen \[jiezi\]\* says: 'Encroaching like sweeping; hence derived from 人, 帚 (broom), and 又 (hand).' Current clerical script omits the 巾 and writes 侵, which is an error. The lower character has the fanqie \*ráo\* + \*shǎo\* (擾). Kong \[Anguo\]'s commentary on the \*Book of Documents\* says: '\*Rǎo\* means to disorder.' The \*Shuowen \[jiezi\]\* says: 'To trouble. Derived from 手 with 夒 as phonetic; 夒 has the fanqie \*nú\* + \*dāo\*.' The \*Shuowen \[jiezi\]\* further explains the character 夒: 'A rapacious beast, also said to be a female monkey; derived from 頁, 止, 匕, and 夂.' Writing it with 憂 in the scripture is incorrect.
