菡𧂄（上含感反下覃感反說文菡𧂄芙蕖花也未發曰芙蓉已發曰菡𧂄也二字並從艸函閻皆聲也經作菡非也）。

> Lotus flower (菡𧂄: the first character has the sound h- \[含\] + -ǎn \[感\] fanqie; the second has the sound d- \[覃\] + -ǎn \[感\] fanqie. The Shuowen says: '菡𧂄 is the lotus (fúqú) flower. Unopened it is called fúróng; already opened it is called hàndàn.' Both characters are formed with the grass radical (艸), with hán (函) and yǎn (閻) as their phonetics. The sūtra writes 菡 \[without the full form\], which is incorrect).
