The first character has the fanqie yi + jin (yīng). The \*Zuozhuan\* mentions 'the Shuangjiu-shi as Minister of Justice.' The \*Guangya\* says: 'A bird of prey that can strike foxes and hares; an associative compound (zhuānzhù) character.' The second character has the fanqie yu + zhao (yào). Gu Yewang says: 'The yao resembles a falcon (hawk) but is smaller.' The \*Guangya\* says: 'The tijian, yuzi, and longtuo are the sparrowhawk (yao).' I note: the sparrowhawk is of the class of falcons and hawks; it has very many different names. The ti in tijian is pronounced ti; the yu in yuzi is pronounced yu.
