> Circulation (循環: for the first character, fanqie suí-zūn. The Guangya says: "Xún (循) means to follow." The Shuowen jiezi says: "To walk; composed of the step radical (彳); 彳 is pronounced chǒu-chǐ fanqie; shùn (盾) is phonetic; 盾 is pronounced shùn. In the sūtra text, writing it with the person radical is incorrect; sometimes written as 巡, which is also acceptable." For the second character, fanqie huá-guān. Zheng Zhong's commentary on the Rites of Zhou says: "Huán (環) means to revolve." The Guangya says: "Huán means round." He's commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: "A thoroughfare." The Shuowen jiezi says: "When the jade body and the hole are equal, it is called a huán (ring); composed of the jade radical with huán (睘) phonetic").
