> Rice-water sediment (潘澱: the Cangjie pian writes 潘; shù + \[去/水\] fanqie; it is rice water. The Shuowen says: '番 is the liquid from washing rice; 淅 is pronounced sū + lì fanqie. North of the Yangtze it is called gān (泔); south of the Yangtze it is called pān (潘).' 澱 has the ancient script form \[黑\*展\]; tú + jiàn fanqie. The Erya says: 'Sediment (澱) is called \[(卬-ㄗ+斤)/土\].' Guo Pu says: '澱 is dregs. East of the Yangtze it is called \[(卬-ㄗ+斤)/土\].' The treatise's text writes 淀, as in newly formed water; also a pool that is shallow is called a diàn (淀); diàn is not this meaning. \[(卬-ㄗ+斤)/土\] is pronounced yú + jìn fanqie; 淀 is pronounced like diàn (殿)').
