> Faeces and urine (屎\[尸@(水/水)\]): The first character is pronounced like 始. A character dictionary says: 'Excrement and faeces.' In the Gujin zhengzi it is written as 𡱁; that traditionally written as 屎 is a vulgar character. In ancient writing it was written as 𠂕; the standard form derives from an abbreviated 尾 with 𠂕 providing the phonetic. The second character is read with the fanqie 泥 + 弔. In the Shuowen, the standard form derives from 尾 and 水; it also says: 'Human urine.' The Kaosheng says: 'Urine; the water inside the belly.' In the sūtra text it is written as 尿, which is a vulgar and abbreviated form. The Tongsuwen says: 'What exits the intestine is called \[犀-牛+(乏-之+夫)\]; what exits the bladder is called 𡲘.'
