痰膿（徒南反字書云痰胷中病經從水作淡乃無味復是去聲字也下奴工反說文云癕疽潰血也從肉農聲經中作淡非經義也）。

> Phlegm and pus (痰膿): Read with the fanqie 徒 + 南. A character dictionary says: '痰 is an affliction of the chest.' The sūtra writes it with 水 as 淡, which means tasteless and is furthermore in the falling tone. The second character is read with the fanqie 奴 + 工. The Shuowen says: 'Blood erupted from carbuncles and ulcers. It derives from 肉 with 農 providing the phonetic.' Written in the sūtra as 淡 does not suit the meaning of the sūtra.
