> Sautrāntika (Within four hundred years after the Buddha's decease, this school branched off from the Sarvāstivāda. They establish only one piṭaka, stating that there is solely a Sūtrapiṭaka. The reason for taking this name is that they hold sūtras to be the fundamental root, while vinaya and abhidharma merely explain the meaning of the sūtras; since they do not go beyond the sūtras, they establish only a Sūtrapiṭaka).
